HOW DID YOU COME TO BLACKLIDGE?
I worked in the oil and gas industry as an Over-The-Counter (OTC) broker, matching buyers and sellers in the market to help procure key raw materials for plastic resins. After doing this for a while, I realized I needed to find a job I could be passionate about and one where I could make a positive impact in the community—an opportunity that would challenge me but also be rewarding. After talking with a recruiter about Blacklidge, I believed they were the opportunity I was looking for. As of August 2021, I have been here for four years, and I am still excited every day to be working for Blacklidge.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT AT BLACKLIDGE?
I have always enjoyed taking on challenges throughout my professional career, and I understood that taking on the role as the Texas Sales manager would have many struggles. Still, I was excited to develop a new territory and was ready to succeed. My biggest accomplishment to date at Blacklidge is expanding the Texas market, with the help of my sales team, into what it is today. With the growth we have brought to this market, we will be opening a new plant in Fairfield, TX, allowing us to continue growing and serve our customers better.

FROM YOUR VIEW, WHAT’S THE FUTURE OF BLACKLIDGE?
Blacklidge is currently in a great position to grow westward and continue providing world-class products in new markets. I believe we are the industry standard on helping our customers build the highest-performing roads possible. As the road construction industry continues to transition to more environmentally friendly solutions, Blacklidge will be at the forefront of this change by providing the most innovative products in the market.

WHAT’S THE MOST EXCITING CHANGE YOU’VE SEEN IN THE ASPHALT/EMULSION INDUSTRY?
Although sometimes slow to change, the asphalt industry is ever-evolving, and I think the most exciting transformation is the realization by the state and local governments that quality tacks are essential if you want to build high-performance roads. As the innovators of the original trackless tack, we have been at the forefront of pushing this agenda. Now it is more common to see UltraTack and UltraFuse specified in the DOT lettings.

WHAT DO YOU DO OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I have always enjoyed traveling to new areas of the world and learning about different cultures. Traveling helps provide perspective on what’s most important in life and reinforces my belief of how lucky I am to have been born in America.

I have an unhealthy passion for fly fishing, and I try to get to Colorado or Montana as much as I can to chase wild trout with my fly rod. If I had to choose anywhere to live outside of Texas, I would pick Crested Butte, CO, so that I could fly fish in the summertime and snow ski in the winter.

Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my family in Austin, TX, whether we are fishing on Lake LBJ or visiting the Texas Gulf Coast. Maintaining a strong family connection while experiencing life together is my number one priority.
