November 8, 2017 - Blacklidge’s non-tracking tack coat technology patents upheld after review by the PTAB

Blacklidge Emulsions, Inc., a leader in innovative asphalt technologies, is pleased to announce that the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has ruled completely in its favor in two Inter Partes Reviews (IPRs) proceedings and has upheld Blacklidge’s patents covering non-tracking tack coat technology. All claims of the two patents challenged by Colas Solutions, Inc. remain valid and enforceable. The patents, U.S. Patent Nos. 7,503,724 and 7,918,624, relate to methods of providing a tack coat between pavement layers and describe quick-curing asphalt emulsions that do not stick to vehicle tires while maintaining bond strength on treated paving surfaces.

“We are very pleased with the decisions by the PTAB, which confirms our long-held position that the non-tracking tack coat patents are valid,” said Brittany Blacklidge, President and Chief Executive Officer of Blacklidge Emulsions. “We have great confidence in our existing product line and we will continue to develop new high-performance asphalt products for our valued customers in the road construction industry,” adds Brittany Blacklidge.
