I am one of the few women I’ve seen driving for this industry, but the work is well worth it.
Diane Bragg
Position: Driver
Years at Blacklidge: 3
Describe a typical day.
I drive all of Blacklidge’s products to our customers. That includes UltraFuse®, UltraTack® and more. My typical day starts at the yard, where we load up the truck. Then, I drive to the customer and drop off the product.
What do you love most about the work you do?
It’s not monotonous; the job is never the same from day to day. I travel to different places and meet different people all the time. My hours vary, too. I usually travel throughout Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Mississippi, but I have been as far as Cincinnati, Ohio and Phoenix, Arizona.
What made you decide to go into this industry?
I was driving for another local company when a friend of mine told me about Blacklidge. I was looking to make a change, and I’m glad I did. The people who run Blacklidge are the best people to work for. They really show their appreciation for employees.
Where do you see yourself in five years, ten years?
I would love to learn more about other aspects of asphalt. It’s so interesting to see the road jobs, to watch the paving process. I still see myself at Blacklidge in the future. I don’t want to leave this company!
What’s your advice for women who may be interested in working in this field?
This is a dirty job, but with the right mindset, you can really do anything. I am one of the few women I’ve seen driving for this industry, but the work is well worth it—especially when you’re with the right company.
